XR Safety Committee

The purpose of the Safety Committee is to lay the groundwork for the development, adoption, and evolution of XR safety standards, with a specific focus on UL 8400, in order to support safe, responsible, and scalable deployment of XR hardware.  The UL TC8400 is a good proxy for engagement with other standards bodies including ISO, IEC, CDRH and others. The Committee aims to:

• Explore safety-related topics—including user well-being, ergonomic risks, perceptual effects, eye strain, biological and human-system interaction—in order to inform industry best practices and influence standards development that are underway.

• Start and sustain a multi-stakeholder dialogue involving XR hardware manufacturers, component suppliers, standards organizations, and regulators in order to align technical innovation with emerging safety and regulatory expectations.
