Accessibility Committee

The AR Alliance has an opportunity to guide the AR industry towards accessible systems that can broadly enhance AR’s usability and adoption. Accessibility is a measure of how well people with a range of abilities and circumstances can use a product. Although there are extensive accessibility guidelines for digital content on traditional displays (such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), see-through AR poses unique challenges for accessibility; to our knowledge, there are no published industry best practices for AR devices. Accessibility is key to ensuring that devices and products are usable by as many people as possible, regardless of physical or cognitive differences - and many AR accessibility measures can also improve every user’s experience, making accessibility a worthwhile investment from both a social and a business standpoint.
